Due to the nature of my latest working experience - I was teaching Fashion Forecasting this last semester- I believe it is necessary to discuss the trends for Resort 2013, in terms of colours; fabrics; shapes; and inspiration, as if I was explaining these to my students.
So to begin with, the colour palette for next Spring/Summer contains a variety of colours and hues. On one end there are these light, pure and soft colours like white, beige, grey and peach, while on the other end there are these vibrant, intense and very optimistic hues like cherry red; fluo pink; orange; yellow; and grass green.
Metallic hues such as silver and gold continue stronger for next summer, see Lanvin, while orange, yellow as well as the combination of black and white are almost present in every collection.
In terms of the fabrics used, well these were dependent to the 'atmosphere' every designer wanted to convey through his/her collection. If I have to be more specific though, I'll say that again I noticed an antithesis in the fabrics used as there were collections with super soft, light and delicate fabrics like superfine cottons, jerseys and muslins- see Roksanda Ilincic- while, there were others with heavier, edgier and more elaborate fabrics- see Proenza Schouler, Burberry, The Row, Altuzarra and Alexander Wang, who used leather, tweed, jeans, sweatshirts even fur, in order to give a more urban feel to the collection. One of the biggest trends for next summer is the leather details or the clothes made completely out of leather - leather t-shirts, leather shorts, or even better leather overalls.

'Wet' surfaces, popular for this coming winter continue to be present as seen in Lanvin, Reed Krakoff and The Row.

What's more, knits continue to have a very strong presence within most of the Resort 2013 collections, while leopard and scarf prints are always a 'must', reminding us this way wild landscapes, jungles and exotic destinations. Nevertheless, lace was the big protagonist of all major collections - see Valentino, Erdem and Marc Jacobs.

As for Shape directions and Fashion Trends for Resort 2013, well I think I'm going to leave it for tomorrow, so that you can digest so far all the above.
And so, as Italians say.... a domani!
Have a great Friday night.
